Jake Long (Jaden Smith) is a 17‑year‑old Brooklyn skater who thinks his family’s “old stories” are just that—until he sprouts scales mid‑wipeout and nearly torches the skatepark.
When his grandfather Lao Shi (Jackie Chan), a grumpy Chinatown herbalist, finally comes clean, Jake learns he’s the next American Dragon, sworn to protect every hidden magical creature in New York.
Training sessions turn into Jackie‑style stunt chaos: rooftop chases, ladder fights in cramped shops, and mid‑air sparring over the East River as Jake struggles to fly without face‑planting.
At the same time, a tech‑armed hunter syndicate starts kidnapping trolls, mer‑folk and pixies to sell their powers on the dark web, using viral “monster sighting” clips as bait. ![]()
As the city turns against anything not human, Jake has to balance school, friends and first love with a secret war in the alleys and subways beneath their feet. Neon‑lit dragon dogfights above Manhattan, subway battles on runaway trains, and a final showdown on the Brooklyn Bridge force him to decide what kind of protector he wants to be: weapon, outlaw… or the bridge between two worlds that have always been at war. ![]()
Rating: 8.8/10 – fast, funny and heartfelt, with spectacular dragon action and classic Jackie Chan charm.
